The Winter Farmers’ Market is a perfect opportunity to stock up for holiday meals, parties and gift giving with more than 130 vendors. Farmers will be selling a variety of locally raised products including eggs, beef, pork, duck, turkeys, holiday hams and a variety of late season and greenhouse produce. Shoppers can also expect to find an abundance of fresh handmade products including locally produced honey, jams, salsa, wine, cheese, noodles, breads, pies and cinnamon rolls. In addition, poinsettias, fresh cut Christmas trees, wreaths, handmade holiday ornaments and home decorations will be available. The Winter Market is free and open to the public. The Winter Market will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
GuideOne Insurance, along with the Greater Des Moines Partnership, invites families to celebrate the new year at Downtown Des Moines’ (DSM’s) biggest New Year’s Eve party for kids – GuideOne ImaginEve! on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017. The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hy-Vee Hall, 733 Third St. in Downtown DSM. Kids and families can enjoy a countdown to the new year with a Times Square-like confetti drop at 8 p.m. The evening will wrap up with a fireworks show at 8:15 p.m.
The free event features inflatable slides, obstacle courses, bounce houses, carnival games with prizes, costumed characters, face painting, live demonstrations from local dance groups and martial arts studios, a Toddler Zone for children under five and a Tween Zone for children ages 10 and up. This one-of-a-kind event encourages family members of all ages to enjoy New Year’s Eve in a safe, responsible way and participate in a wide variety of activities. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Additionally, the Iowa Hall of Pride will be open for guests to visit throughout the event. Admission will be free.
